Countdown to Summer

Wow, this year has just flown right by; only two more weeks of regular classes.

Ecological Research & Development Group has invited us to participate in their annual Young Voices Horseshoe Crab and the Arts Competition. The deadline is June 15, so this week will be the last week for kids to do h-crab artwork since I’ll need the application form from the parents in order to complete their entries. I enter the kids’ work digitally, so I’ll need those forms to scan and attach with the entries.

Last week some of the kids opted to do the exercise of Drawing from Your Head where they didn’t use any reference, just drew from imagination. I always stress drawing what you see because that’s the best way to become a skilled artist. When we stop looking and start thinking, that’s often when inner symbols take over, and visual integrity is lost.  This exercise often proves the point that drawing what you see is key, and once you are good at drawing what you see, your ability to draw from imagination and exercise artistic license is greatly enhanced. Enjoy these awesome artworks, and scroll down for the schedule. Make sure to check out the summer offerings too.

This week we welcomed Quinn. Here’s his first ever pastel painting at the Top!
