Negative Space/Positive Experience

Over the course of the school year I try to squeeze in most aspects of fine art development. Even kids who have been with me year after year find running through the curriculum helps reinforce basic truths and further develop techniques that, once made habit, really enhance the quality of their artwork. Last week we focused on negative space, approaching the work not from the subject itself but the space between things. It’s always amazing that the brain wants to draw the subject, but when we render the negative space first, the results are greatly improved!
