Some things never change. Here I am, and it’s like it was back in the 60s, protesting. Believe it or not, the unfairness has gotten worse, not better, and it looks like our uneducated masses have elected a tyrant, and I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that 50 years’ progress, civil rights, women’s rights, human rights…, looks like it’s headed out the window.
The only thing that has changed is that we entered the information age, and the downside of that is that false information can be spread like wildfire to unsuspecting citizens – unless they have media savvy, which most don’t. I think educators need to focus on Media Literacy as much as the English language itself!
Here I am in 1969 doing my peace thing. And here I am in 2016 doing it again. The scarf setup is to confuse bigots. You’d think now, headed into my twilight years, I’d catch a break. To quote Jimmy Cliff, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer – suffering in the land. Many hard working people like myself are cringing at the thought of old age and retirement because the gap just keeps on growing. And that goes for the reality gap too! We have a president-elect who is an Internet troll that invents his own false reality and spreads it around every day. Woe is us. Woe is the truth.
So, as we near 2017, I have two protests to attend to.
One is the fucking Pilgrim nuke that is so old and poorly managed it’s an accident waiting to happen. I’ve been protesting this dog since it was being built in 1970, for christsake. Recently an email leaked about the ongoing joke of an NRC talking about how compromised the plant and its management are. Here’s an article about that, in case you haven’t been paying attention.
Dear God, please don’t let me be able to say I told you so… So, on January 9, 2017 I’ll be standing at the gate with a sign I made years ago, and I still have to keep pulling it out, year after year because industry doesn’t give a shit about our health and well-being. Sheesh.
Then recently Diane Turco, a powerful voice for Cape Downwinders, asked me to make a poster for the Rally at the Gate. So, realizing that I’d actually made the very first radiation plume map for Pilgrim back when Pixie Lampert and I were creating the pilgrimwatch.org site, I did that.
And I’ve made plans with an old friend to attend the Women’s March in NYC because I just can’t stay home on that day, January 20, after that asshole takes office. Many news outlets are now calling it a coronation. So, here’s my poster for that.
Happy-Ish New Year!
