As we work to prioritize strategies and issues, this concern arose that has a simple action anyone who uses Meta products – Facebook, Messenger, Threads, Instagram, WhatsApp, and some business tools – can take.
In response to Zuckerberg\u2019s Meta dropping moderation and fact-checking to kowtow to the incoming administration\u2019s disdain\u00a0for truth, decency and institutions, a coordinated blackout of these services by enough users could send\u00a0an effective message. A kind of \u201choller with your dollar\u201d or in this case a refusal to support the social media that actually helped to create and now advances the mess we are in.

ACTION: <\/strong>Log Out of or Deactivate All Meta Accounts on January 19<\/strong> (if only for a week or even a few days if you\u2019re dependent on the platform) to send a message to Meta that we do not support the incoming oligarchy and Meta’s enabling of it. If enough people do it, it could have a powerful impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

OPTION 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Log Out of all Meta products on January 19, and stay logged out for a week.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OPTION 2:<\/strong> Deactivate all Meta accounts for a week (or longer). Deactivation does not delete your account, and you can reactivate. But beware, if you deactivate and reactivate, you can’t deactivate again for a week, so make sure you’re ready on Jan 19 when you click that button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Deactivate:<\/strong>\u00a0Click on your profile icon upper right; select Settings and Privacy; go to the Accounts Center in your settings, select “Personal details,” then “Account Ownership and Control,” and choose “Deactivation.” Follow the prompts to temporarily deactivate your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also permanently delete your account there. We recommend a deactivation period, and then you can always delete later if you choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
