Kids are working hard on their self portraits. After we’ve accomplished that – and an accomplishment it is! – we’ll cut loose with Free Draw where the kids can do whatever they like within reason. \u00a0Then we’ll be creating our sunflower paintings for the auction\u00a0to benefit World Central Kitchen\u00a0at the show on May 27, and getting ready for the show.<\/p>\n

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ANNUAL SHOW
\n<\/strong>This is our 13th annual show (would have been 15th if not for covid), and we are very fortunate that Scott Hokanson of Brabo Benefits is generously hosting us.<\/p>\n

THE EXHIBIT<\/strong>
\nThis is a really cool way for kids to experience being an artist in a real exhibit. Kids need to choose\u00a0the 1 or 2 paintings they\u2019d like to display. These will need to be framed for hanging. \u00a0Once they\u2019ve chosen the works, encourage the kids to give their paintings short creative and unique titles. All you need to do is to let me know the title and price or NFS of the pieces that will be shown by April 30, frame it for hanging (dollar store document frames are perfect), and deliver it to me by May 23rd. I\u2019ll take care of the rest. If you\u2019re having trouble deciding, you can see all of the works in this\u00a0blog\u2018s<\/a> weekly posts. If they want to put a price on the work, \u00a0I recommend around $30. Most kids like to hang onto their work but some enterprising ones hope to make a few bucks.<\/p>\n

I make postcards like the one below that represents the artists in the show, and\u00a0have 100 printed so each kid gets 4 to give or send and impress their friends and teachers. \ud83d\ude42

THE AUCTION<\/strong>
\nKids and parents agree to donate a painting made specially in class. We will make them in the coming weeks\u00a0so everyone gets a chance to make one. I frame them, and we have a silent auction during the party on May 27. \u00a0<\/b>This year’s auction of sunflower paintings will benefit World Central Kitchen’s Chefs for Ukraine<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0effort to feed the millions of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war. We hope to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>raise lots of money for this important cause.\u00a0Donating to the auction is completely optional, and if a kid doesn\u2019t want to donate, it\u2019s perfectly okay.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE OPENING<\/strong>
\nEveryone is welcome! We have a big party and auction at Brabo Benefits, 65 Cordage Park Circle (next to 1620 Winery), 5-7PM.
\nAny parent who wants to bring foods and\/or drinks, let me know – see list below. Jim and I will order 10 pizzas, and have the plates and napkins. \u00a0I\u2019ll get a couple big bottles of wine and some beer.

\nApril 30 \u2013 or sooner\u00a0<\/strong>Need titles for the artworks (and prices or NFS) for the tags and program. I encourage the kids to invent short<\/strong>\u00a0(20 characters or fewer) interesting titles for their works, and price them if they want to sell.
\nMay 23 \u2013 or sooner\u00a0<\/strong>All framed artwork delivered to me so I can hang the show.
\nMay 27 \u2013 Party & Auction! 5-7:00 <\/strong>at Brabo Benefits,\u00a065 Cordage Park Circle.\u00a0 <\/strong>Artwork can be taken home at the end of the show, or picked up later at 20 Savery Ave.<\/p>\n
