17th Annual Student Exhibit & Auction

Our 17th Annual Student Show and Auction opening party is May 15, 5-7:00pm. The show hangs through June 19 at Harborwalk Apartments lobby, 30 Loring Blvd at the Cordage, Plymouth. I encourage artists’ families to opt in ASAP, so I can determine how many works will be hung, and make the postcard and program. I will be updating this post regularly. See the lists below.

KIDS: Make sure to find your t-shirts ahead of time to wear to the party!

The annual show is a great way for young artists to get a taste of what it’s like to be a professional artist, and to see their work hanging in a public place. Kids are encouraged to sell their work if they’d like. Kids deal directly with buyers. Unlike galleries, there’s no commission, so artists get full payment for their work.

We will have 21 artists in the show, including me. Postcards are at the printers!

THE EXHIBIT
Kids need to choose one or two paintings they’d like to exhibit. These will need to be framed for hanging (dollar store 8.5×11 document frames are perfect). Once they’ve chosen the works, encourage the kids to give their paintings short creative and unique titles. All you need to do is to let me know the title and price or NFS of the pieces by April 15, frame them for hanging, and deliver to me by May 1. I’ll take care of the rest. If you’re having trouble deciding, you can see all of the works in this blog‘s weekly posts. If they want to put a price on the work,  I recommend around $30 for sales. The exhibit at Harborwalk Apartments lobby opens May 15, 5-7PM, and runs during regular business hours through June 19.

THE AUCTION
Kids and parents agree to donate a painting made specially in class. We will make them the weeks of April 14-21, so everyone gets a chance to make one. I frame them, and we have a silent auction during the party on May 15. This year our Noisy Silent Auction of Beautiful People will benefit World Central Kitchen feeding hungry people in war-torn regions. A student’s donation to the auction is completely optional, and if a kid doesn’t want to donate their painting, it’s perfectly okay.

THE OPENING
Everyone is welcome! We have a big party and auction at Harborwalk Apartments on May 15, 5-7PM. Jim and I provide beer and wine and a bunch of pizzas delivered; parents and families bring finger foods and kid drinks.  Parents, please let me know what you plan to bring.

TIMELINE & DEADLINES
April 1 – Exhibitors have committed to participate. Parents need to confirm.
April 15 or ASAP  – Submit info (title, price or NFS) on the 1 or 2 pieces to be exhibited. I need this info to create programs.
April 14 –  We start making auction items. 
Parents who want to contribute to party food and such let me know what you plan to bring. We provide beer, wine, pizzas, plates, napkins, etc.
May 1 – All artwork delivered to me framed and ready to hang
May 11-14 –  I prepare the auction and hang the show.
May 15 – 5-7 BIG PARTY, opening reception & noisy silent auction
June 18/19 – Pick up work at Harborwalk. I’ll take remaining works down June 19, and they can be picked up in the mudroom.
