Daylight!

The first step to preparing for our annual show and auction is to know who is participating. I need parents to confirm by email. With that confirmation, I can assume that the artwork that’s chosen for exhibit will be framed and ready to hang the week before the show. We use mostly 8.5×11 paper so you can just pop the paintings into dollar store frames.
I’m encouraging kids to go through their work done since mid October 2020 to select a few contenders for the show. This is an easy and fun thing to do. Just go to https://heidimayo.com/topblog, scroll down and click “Load more posts” until you’ve gone back in time as far as you want. After reviewing a week, just click “previous” to check the later week until you’re current. It’s really nice to review all of the wonderful artworks the kids have done, and makes choosing for the show easier. The sooner the artists choose the paintings they’ll show, the sooner I can make the program and tags for the exhibit. I also make a postcard with each kid in the show represented. We are working on faces and expressions, and looking at portraits as more than just a straight forward face. For portrait practice we used works by some of my favorite pastel portrait artists: Alicia Sotherland, William Schneider, Alain Picard, and Diane Rappisi.
